Rights Group Ties 41,000 Ribbons for Khodorkovsky
Former Yukos head Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his business partner Platon Lebedev were in court again Monday as the human rights group Sovest (Conscience) organized a rally outside, at which young people were wearing Khodorkovsky tee-shirts, Ekho Moskvy reported.
On Monday the Sovest group reportedly decorated Moscow with 41,000 yellow and green ribbons in support of Khodorkovsky and Yukos, according to the radio station. The colors are present on Yukos’s official logo. The protest is called “Tie Up Lawlessness.”
Khodorkovsky turned 41 last month.
Meanwhile, at the Moscow Meschansky Court where Khodorkovsky’s hearing is being held, young people sported tee-shirts calling for the tycoon’s release and shouted out slogans like “Freedom, freedom!” and “No to Basmanny Court Justice!” Basmanny is a Moscow court where the Yukos case has often been heard.
In a previous event organized by the rights group, Sovest celebrated Khodorkovsky’s birthday, June 26, with balloons, champagne, and fireworks in front of the Moscow detention center where Khodorkovksy is jailed.
